New Undergraduate Degree in Biocomputing, Pre-Medicine Only One of Its Kind in Indiana

February 22, 2010 — The School of Science at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis announced a new undergraduate degree program in biocomputing and pre-medicine. The newly developed undergraduate program in computer sciences will provide a research track which will prime students for the rigors of medical school while preparing them for emerging positions in the field of biocomputing.

School of Science Professor Chairs International Planning Committee for Oceanic Research, Climate Change

February 22, 2010 — The School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis announced Dr. Gabriel Filippelli will serve as the Chair of Science Planning Committee for Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), an international research effort exploring the ocean floor to better understand deep ocean life, how oceans form and what climate changes are occurring throughout the world.

IUPUI Professor Awarded Four Year, $1.25 Million Grant to Study Gene Expression in Optic Nerve to Understand Brain Injury, Disease

Teri Belecky-AdamsFebruary 5, 2010 — According to the Centers for Disease Control, millions of Americans are affected by brain injury and brain disease each year. In an effort to better understand the brain’s reaction to injury and disease, the National Institutes of Health’s National Eye Institute recently awarded Teri Belecky-Adams, assistant professor of developmental biology at Indiana University – Purdue University School of Science, a four year, $1.25 million grant to study the development of cells and specific gene expressions in astrocytes present in the optic nerve.
