Meeting Professionals International has selected Amanda Cecil, an assistant professor in the Department of Tourism, Conventions and Event Management at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, as a 2012 Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence Award winner.
Cecil is one of six people who will be recognized for exceptional achievements related to individual, community and organizational initiatives, Meeting Professionals International said. Award winners will be acknowledged at the RISE Awards presentation and lunch July 29, hosted during Meeting Professionals International’s World Education Congress in St. Louis.
“Each year the RISE Awards offer a glimpse at the possible. MPI articulates what these people and organizations have done in ways that inspire our members and the industry to new heights,” said Brian Palmer, chair of the RISE Awards Judging Panel.
Cecil will receive the RISE award for Member of the Year, recognizing her volunteer leadership in the creation of the Meeting and Business Event Competency Standards. Cecil chaired the Meeting Professionals International Body of Knowledge Task Force, which was responsible for creating the standards, the first occupational standards for the meeting and event profession, according to MPI.
