Judith (Jude) A. Wilkinson, J.D., Indiana University School of Dentistry’s longtime fiscal officer for research and industrial liaison, received a 2012 President’s Award from the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) during the association’s annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif., in March.
The President’s Award is bestowed on individuals in recognition of their outstanding and lasting contributions to the organization. Ms. Wilkinson has belonged to the AUTM for about 20 years and has served as program chair for the association’s Central Region meetings for three years, including sessions held in Memphis, Tenn., and Louisville, Ky., and 2012’s session scheduled for Oklahoma City in July.
“The association is a combination of research and technology education and transfer of knowledge for the public good and economic development,” said Ms. Wilkinson. The AUTM has more than 3,000 members representing more than 350 universities, research institutions, and teaching hospitals as well as business and government organizations.
With Ms. Wilkinson in position as site chair for the Central Region’s 2013 meeting, the organization is well prepared for its next meeting destination – Indianapolis. “The 2013 meeting will showcase Indianapolis, the Indiana life science industry, and university research initiatives,” she said.
Ms. Wilkinson holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a law degree from IU. In addition to her work with the AUTM, she is extensively involved in Indiana organizations that strive to promote and facilitate the growth of Indiana’s technology research base and the transfer of technology to the marketplace. She currently serves as treasurer for Access Technology Across Indiana (ATAIN) and as a member of the advisory board for the Indiana Innovation Network (IIN).
Employed by IU since 1981, Ms. Wilkinson accepted a position as the IU dental school’s first technology transfer specialist in 1997. Her career related to technology transfer began in the early 1990s when she was enlisted to help establish Indiana University’s first system-wide technology transfer office. She served as assistant director of that office for more than five years.
