Internationally recognized sculptor Don Gummer installed his 18-foot tall stainless steel and colored glass sculpture entitled "Open Eyes" on Friday, August 12, 2011, in front of the new Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute, 1160 W. Michigan Street, on the IUPUI campus.

The privately commissioned work will welcome patients to the home of the Indiana University Department of Ophthalmology, made possible with a $30 million gift from Mr. and Mrs. Glick. The building will be dedicated during a ceremony at 3 p.m. on Aug. 19 at the IUPUI Campus Center.

Gummer spent his youth in Indianapolis, attending Ben Davis High School and the Herron School of Art. His public commissions can be seen in Evansville, Ind.; Youngstown, Ohio; North Adams, Mass.; and Kitakyushu, Japan. His most recent solo exhibits have been in California, Massachusetts, New York, Indiana, Ohio and Italy.
