From the Desk of the Chancellor, June 20, 2011

Congratulations to Winnie Wilson and the IUPUI Office for Veterans and Military Personnel for receiving an Operation Diploma award of $49,887 from the Military Family Research Institute based at Purdue University!

The grant is designed to help institutions develop programs and policies to boost the academic success of student members and veterans of the U.S. Military. A feature of the IUPUI proposal that reviewers especially liked was the partnership with our School of Engineering and Technology, which has academic majors that are particularly attractive to military students.

The Operation Diploma proposal reviewers represented active and retired military personnel as well as faculty, staff, and administrators from institutions of higher education across the nation. In announcing the award, the Operation Diploma Team, wrote: “It is an honor to be able to work with such committed institutions of higher education, and we look forward to collaborating with each of you in the coming year.”

Operation Diploma was launched with a $5.8 million gift from Lilly Endowment, Inc., to empower Indiana’s postsecondary institutions and student veterans organizations to better assist service members and veterans entering college for the first time as well as those re-entering college after extended service or deployment.

We are grateful for the funding that the MFRI has provided to IUPUI and other Indiana institutions to assist in the creation of military-friendly campuses.
