IUPUI is ranked third among national universities in the “Up-and-Comers” category in the U.S.News & World Report's 2012 edition of Best Colleges.

The magazine’s editors compiled the “Up-and-Comers” ranking based on surveys of college administrators who were asked to nominate institutions that they thought had recently made the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus, or facilities.

Three IUPUI programs were again included again in the magazine’s rankings of programs that education experts agree help undergraduates thrive. The three programs ranked in the so-called “Programs to Look For” category are: First-year experience, Service Learning and Learning Communities.

“We know IUPUI makes an impact every day because our innovative faculty are national leaders in civic engagement and student success,” said IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz. “As a result, IUPUI is increasingly recognized for first-year experience, service learning, and learning communities. Our continuing recognition as an “Up and Coming School” demonstrates that IUPUI’s bold innovation and commitment are making an impact that is recognized nationally."

U.S. News & World Report initiated the “Up and Coming” category four years ago. In the list’s first year IUPUI was ranked 14th. The second year IUPUI moved to 7th and last year IUPUI was tied for 5th.
