National experts gather at IUPUI to celebrate publication of newly edited Frederick Douglass autobiography

INDIANAPOLIS – One of the nation’s foremost authorities on the U.S. Civil War is the keynote speaker for a conference next month on the life and work of Frederick Douglass – best known historically as a runaway slave turned abolitionist in antebellum America. Douglass subsequently became one of the most influential writers and thinkers of the Civil War and Reconstruction periods.

IUPUI University Library’s Herron Art Library has partnered with the Harrison Center for the Arts to sponsor "Bookmark," an Indianapolis Downtown Artists & Dealers Association First Friday event. The exhibit opening reception will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the Harrison Center for the Arts, 1505 N. Delaware St. in Indianapolis. The artwork will be on view until Aug. 29. Both the reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
