Bonnie Mowinski Jennings, DNSc, RN, FAAN, will be the distinguished lecturer at the Ninth Annual Sonna Ehrlich Merk Distinguished Lectureship on Friday, March 6, 2009—an event that promotes collaboration between nursing service and education. A luncheon and lecture, hosted jointly by the Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) and Clarian Health will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Ballroom of the University Place Conference Center & Hotel on the IUPUI campus. Dr. Jennings’s presentation is entitled “The Care Environment: Can Chaos, Commotion and Quality Coexist?”
February 27, 2009 — Nursing state leaders from across the country, including Indiana, recently gathered in Baltimore, Maryland for the 2009 two-day Nursing Education Capacity Summit, which brought together teams to not only address the nursing shortage, but help create solutions.

Marion E. Broome, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean and distinguished professor, Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON), has been appointed to the US Department of Defense Health Board (DHB) Health Care Delivery Subcommittee. Dean Broome is one of 18 members of the DHB Subcommittee with a two-year appointment.
November 14, 2008 — The Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) is pleased to announce that Phyllis N. Stern, DNS, RN, FAAN, has been designated a 2008 Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN).

October 23, 2008 — Donna Boland, PhD, Pamela Ironside, PhD, RN, FAAN and Melinda Swenson, PhD, RN, FAANP, faculty at the Indiana University School of Nursing, were three of 24 fellows who were formally inducted into the National League for Nursing (NLN) Academy of Nursing Education on September 20, 2008 during the NLN Education Summit in San Antonio, Texas. The fellows, selected by the NLN Board of Governors, the oversight body for the Academy, have been chosen for their sustained and significant contributions to the field of nursing education.

October 21, 2008 — Janet S. Carpenter, PhD, RN, professor in the Department of Adult Health at the Indiana University School of Nursing, Indianapolis, is one of many researchers involved in a new research initiative from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Women troubled by hot flashes and night sweats during the years around menopause want safe, effective treatment options. The initiative establishes a multi-site research network to conduct clinical trials of promising treatments for the most common symptoms of the menopausal transition.

Von Ah, PhD, RN, assistant professor at the Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON), was one of 15 junior faculty nationwide to receive an inaugural Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar award. The three-year, $350,000 grant began September 1.

September 4, 2008 — Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) will honor Angela Barron McBride, PhD, RN, FAAN, with the unveiling of her official portrait on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the Indiana Historical Society. Dr. McBride, distinguished professor, former member of the IUSON faculty for 25 years and university dean emerita, was the fourth dean of IUSON from 1991-2003.
