Congratulations to Shytierra Gaston and Sun Kyung JoAn Kim, who have been selected to represent the senior class and speak at IUPUI’s commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 15! We have invited these two graduating seniors to address the Class of 2011 and reflect on their experiences at IUPUI in a way that will resonate with their fellow graduates. The selection committee looks for students who have both good academic records and a history of engagement with campus and community life.

Shytierra Gaston is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice degree from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. In the fall, she will begin work toward a Ph.D. in criminology and criminal justice degree at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Shytierra will address the audience at the 11 a.m. ceremony.

Sun Kyung JoAn Kim is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry degree from the Purdue School of Science. She plans to enter the combined M.D./Ph.D program to become a cardiothoracic surgeon and conduct research into heart-related issues of young children. JoAn will address the 3:30 p.m. ceremony.

I always look forward to this joyous occasion. For more information about the two main campuswide ceremonies, as well as associated school-based activities, see the Commencement 2011 Ceremony Schedule.
