Thanks to all of you, we’ve done it again. IUPUI enrollment and credit hours set new records. Last week’s announcement of the Indiana University official enrollment report demonstrates that IUPUI is continuing to be a major factor in Indianapolis’s relative vitality during these tough economic times. By serving more students, and helping students graduate, we contribute to Indiana’s future.
This fall, undergraduate enrollment is up 1.3 percent and credit hours are up 1.9 percent. We are pleased that overall enrollment is up—and retention is up—both of which will contribute to the Talent Dividend, which seeks to boost the number of baccalaureate degree holders contributing to the regional economy.
My thanks go to you—the staff and faculty—who, weathering the economic downturn, have worked hard to ensure that critical work got done. Faculty developed attractive new degree programs to encourage students to pursue exciting career options, while making the classroom rich with learning experiences and conducting research to advance knowledge in their fields. Staff made sure that students had the information they needed to make decisions about their academic course and then ensured that the processes—applications, enrollment, financing, advising, housing, parking, food service and more—all went smoothly. Students were met with a campus in every way poised to help them succeed in meeting their goals.
As the fall semester gets under way, I thank the faculty and staff for all you have done to contribute to IUPUI’s record-setting accomplishments. IUPUI is flourishing because of you.
