September 7, 2010
The first week of September marks the publication of U.S. News and World Report’s 2010 “America's Best Colleges” issue. IUPUI continues to be recognized among “Up and Coming National Universities.”
In the list’s first year we ranked 14th, last year we moved up to 7th, and this year we are tied for 5th! We once again made the lists of “Academic Programs to Look For,” being recognized for our great work in first-year experiences, learning communities, and service learning. Our national reputation puts us among the leaders in innovative programs for undergraduate student success.
In a new ranking category, based on a national survey of high school guidance counselors, universities were ranked according to those that counselors think offer the best undergraduate education to students. They rated the universities on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 being the top score). IUPUI made the list with a score of 4.0. That’s very impressive for IUPUI to appear on a national listing—and in ranking 47th we are tied with my alma mater, the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, as well as the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Penn State.
While individual criteria for any kind of rankings can be disputed, reputation does count. And IUPUI’s continues to grow.
