Indiana University School of Nursing Dean Will Be Inducted Into The Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame

Marion E. Broome, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean and distinguished professor, Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON), will be inducted into the newly created Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame during the International Nursing Research Congress on July 16, 2010 in Orlando, Florida. Dean Broome is one of 22 esteemed nurse researchers who will be recognized in the inaugural induction award ceremony sponsored by Wiley-Blackwell.

This unique recognition eternally honors nurse researchers who are Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) members; who have achieved long-term, broad national and/or international recognition for their work; and whose research has impacted the profession and the people it serves. The inductees include nurses who are leaders, mentors, scholars and role models. Their research projects have been focused on areas such as patient/family outcomes, community wellness, national or international health care policy and health care interventions.

Dean Broome has been a pediatric nurse for over 35 years and is best known for her pain management and research ethics with children. Other areas of recent research include obesity in children and peer review practices. In addition to her leadership role as dean at IUSON, Dr. Broome is also a member of the Indiana University Graduate School, Affiliate Faculty of the Indiana University School of Bioethics, and also serves as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Clarian Health. Previously, Broome has held a variety of academic appointments at the University of Alabama – Birmingham, the University of Louisville, the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, the Medical College of Wisconsin, Rush University, and the Medical College of Georgia.

She has authored over 95 refereed journal articles, 5 books/monographs, 14 book chapters, and numerous editorials and non-refereed columns and abstracts, and has delivered numerous national and international presentations. Dr. Broome is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) (and current Editor-in-Chief of Nursing Outlook, the official journal of AAN), a member of the American Nurses Association, the Council of Science Editors, member and past President of the Society for Pediatric Nurses, and member of the Board of Directors of the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation. In 2008, she was appointed to the National Advisory Council for the National Institute of Nursing Research at NIH as well as the U.S. Department of Defense Health Board (DHB) Health Care Delivery Subcommittee.
