Don Tapscott, internationally renowned author and authority on the impact of information technology on business strategy, education, and culture, will speak at IUPUI.
As the keynote speaker for the 14th annual IU Statewide Information Technology Conference, Tapscott is scheduled to present “The Net Generation and the Reinvention of the University” on Thursday, October 1, at 4 p.m. at the IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Boulevard in Indianapolis. His presentation is open to the public and made possible, in part, by Dell, Apple, AT&T, Matrix Integration, and the IU Pervasive Technology Institute.
“Don Tapscott is a dynamic voice in organizational transformation and the role of technology in business, higher education, and society,” said Brad Wheeler, Indiana University vice president for information technology and CIO. “His thoughts on the role of technology for the generation now entering higher education have made him a respected voice in the discussion of how universities should work in the digital age. He is a timely provocateur for IU’s annual IT conference .”
Tapscott’s best-selling Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything explores how companies have embraced Net-generation principles such as openness, peering, sharing, and acting globally to build success. His latest book, Grown Up Digital: How the Net Generation is Changing the World, furthers those explorations by examining the power and influence of Generation Y within schools, business, marketing, government, community relations, and on our daily lives.
“The central Indiana business community and the university community are fortunate to have an opportunity to hear from an international authority on the ways the information age is reshaping business, education, and society,” said Frank Acito, associate dean of Information Technology, professor of marketing, and Max Barney Distinguished Teaching Fellow for the IU Kelley School of Business. “At a time when business models are rapidly changing due to the explosion of new social media channels, it is critical that we pay attention.”
Currently, Tapscott serves as chairman of nGenera Insight and as an adjunct professor of management at the University of Toronto. He also maintains blogs at http://www.grownupdigital.com and http://www.wikinomics.com/blog/.
