UPDATE: Due to low supplies of vaccine, IUPUI Health Services' flu clinics for September 22, September 23, and September 24 are CANCELLED.
Seasonal (also referred to as annual) flu shots are being provided now by IUPUI Health Services. Seasonal flu shots are free for faculty and staff. A limited number (1750) of free seasonal flu shots are available for students. If that supply is exhausted, students may be charged $20 for a flu shot at Health Services.
Seasonal flu vaccine is the vaccine offered every year in the fall. It covers you against three common types of influenza. These types are chosen each year as the ones most likely to infect our community during the flu season (December to March). This vaccination does not protect against the H1N1 strain of influenza.
The H1N1 vaccine is scheduled to be available in October or November. Those shots will be free and given later in a separate program according to federal, state and local health departments. Information about the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine and priority groups can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/.
For information about H1N1 vaccine availability at IUPUI please refer to the Health Services website: http://health.iupui.edu.
As in the past, IUPUI Health Services will hold seasonal flu shot clinics at various campus locations. For up-to-date information about the campus locations of the seasonal flu shot clinics, please refer to the Health Services website: http://health.iupui.edu. If you are unable to attend one of the flu shot clinics, you can receive your shot at IUPUI Health Services (Coleman Hall Suite 100). It is very important to get your seasonal flu shot now. It will last through the flu season of 2009-2010.
All faculty, staff and students who want to reduce their chances of getting seasonal influenza are encouraged to get vaccinated. Those who have chronic conditions—such as asthma, diabetes, or immune disorders—that may put them at increased risk for complications of influenza are strongly encouraged to get a seasonal flu shot every year.
Please visit the IUPUI Emergency Preparedness website to view a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) containing information about the seasonal and H1N1 flu virus: http://www.iupui.edu/~prepared/h1n1/.
