April 9, 2009
In celebration of the campus's diverse and innovative research and scholarly activities portfolio, IUPUI will host IUPUI Research Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 24, 2009.
Highlights of this day-long event include a keynote presentation by Nobel Laureate and physicist Dr. Leon Lederman; a series of faculty oral and poster presentations; and student poster presentations and roundtable discussions. These events are free of charge and open to the public.
Lederman will present, “Knowing How Science Works for Scientists and Citizens,” at 1 p.m. in Room 101 of Lecture Hall, 325 University Blvd. Lederman is a founder and the inaugural Resident Scholar at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, a three-year residential public high school for the gifted. He recently served as co-chair of the National Science Board Commission on 21st Century Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Following Lederman's talk, a networking reception and a series of faculty oral and poster presentations will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. The oral and poster presentations will be held throughout the Lecture Hall building.
Research Day also includes a series of undergraduate and graduate/professional student poster presentations and undergraduate student roundtable discussions. The poster presentations will take place from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in the University Library Skywalk. The roundtable discussions will take place from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. throughout the Business/SPEA and Education buildings.
The goal of both the poster presentations and roundtable discussions is to provide a forum for students to present and discuss their research and scholarly work with Research Day participants. The presentations also allow students involved in research to meet some of their peers.
The IUPUI Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is hosting Research Day as part of the campus's 40th anniversary celebration.
