February 12, 2009
The Indiana University Kelley School of Business Indianapolis is throwing a party and you’re invited.
Revelers are expected to pack the second-floor hallway of the Kelley School of Business/School of Public and Environmental Affairs building from 1 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2009, for the inaugural Kelley Virtual Neighborhood Block Party.
The event will be held on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis at the Kelley/SPEA building, 801 W. Michigan St.
Tuesday’s event will feature the typical party fare, including food and drink, but the name of the game for this party is networking. Stretching the entire length of the building will be various stops to highlight how Kelley is expanding in the virtual world through the use of student blogs, Facebook, podcasts and more.
The event will allow “Kelleagues” – Kelley students, faculty, staff and friends – to meet and greet one another like never before. Commuter students who rarely had an opportunity to interact with classmates outside the classroom will now have a one-stop shop to meet new people, learn how Kelley exists in cyberspace and discover exciting news and events happening at Kelley Indianapolis.
“We are really excited about the buzz this event has created,” said Janea Marking, coordinator of the event. “Our virtual presence is a great way for students to use the communication tools they already employ to stay in contact and network with one another and IU Kelley Indianapolis.”
Kelley also will be looking for star material to post on its own YouTube channel. So, get your act together and be prepared to create your very own mini video for all eyes to see.
And what would a party be without door prizes?
Lucky winners will be chosen based on their participation for some great gifts, including an Ipod Touch or Microsoft Zune mp3 player or a new Flip video recorder, the hottest new pocket device for users looking to upload and share video through the Internet. Smaller “on the spot” gifts will be distributed as well.
Facebook junkies will have an opportunity to get real-life pieces of Kelley flair to add to their cyber collection.
The event also will feature representatives from various student groups, academic advisors, campus housing and other organizations involved in creating the overall IU Kelley Indianapolis experience.
Sarah “Intellagirl” Smith-Robbins of Kelley Executive Partners will host an Emerging Technologies booth where students and staff will learn about Second Life and the opportunities in today’s virtual reality. Registrations also will take place for Kelley’s team for the 2009 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
The event should be a fun and fast-paced showcase for the many avenues available to Kelley and other students to communicate with one another on and off campus. So come join in, blog out and experience Kelley’s virtual world.
