For the second time in three years, the IUPUI Office of Student Scholarships (OSS) is the recipient of a national award for scholarship administration.

The IUPUI OSS was recognized recently by the National Scholarships Providers Association (NSPA) as the 2008 University Scholarship Provider of the Year. The NSPA’s competitive award is based on quality of programming, efficiency of administration and indicators of success, such as retention and graduation rates.

"It is a wonderful recognition of the contributions our scholarship staff are making and the quality of their work," says Dr. Rebecca Porter, executive director of Enrollment Services.

The award, sponsored by FASTWEB, a national internet-based scholarship search engine, includes a $2,500 gift that will be designated to the McCracken Assist Scholarship at IUPUI. The McCracken scholarships support students who are single parents.

"Students who are single parents tend to work excessively to support their families, attend school part-time and experience other barriers to college success," says Scholarships Director, Beth Barnette. "Often these students do not qualify for sufficient financial to aid to help adequately off-set their college expenses, so this scholarship helps them to reach their educational goals through additional financial support."

IUPUI also won the Scholarship Provider of the Year award in 2006.

IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
